Personal Opinion

PM Modi’s strong commitment

June 17, 2020 by Manish Gurjar

The Prime Minister struck the right note in his initial remarks on the unfortunate killing of a number of Indian soldiers in combat with personnel of the Chinese armed forces in Galwan Valley, eastern Ladakh. He assured the nation that the sacrifice of their lives by Indian soldiers will not go in vain, and that India would defend its self-respect and every inch of its territory. At the same time, he told the world that India is committed to peace but prepared and capable of defending its interests.

Working towards providing basic necessities in life to everyone is another value that is close to my heart. These aforementioned values have strong foundations in the tenets of liberty, equality and justice, vital to ensuring a life of dignity and contentment to all. My commitment to these values will forever remain unwavering.

India is a democracy, where people’s sentiments matter and have to be respected. China must appreciate this, and not make the mistake of thinking that political leaders have untrammelled capacity to look over the dead bodies of the nation’s soldiers to a calculus of larger costs and benefits. It is in China’s interest, apart from India’s and the world’s, for the India-China border to remain peaceful.
